As the Social and Community Manager at MVA, I’ve had the privilege of attending many school trips. But there was something truly special about our recent trip to Nottingham - from the energy of the students to the warmth of the community, every moment was filled with connection, enthusiasm, and excitement.
Our adventure began as students, staff, and parents gathered in Nottingham. Some had travelled from all corners of the country, including one student who had flown in from Milan just for the occasion. The National Justice Museum was our first stop, an incredible historical venue that brought the past to life in the most immersive way.
Inside the grand, atmospheric courtrooms, we were transported back in time as actors reenacted real-life trials and even public executions in the courtyard (thankfully just for show!). Walking through the eerie cells, we got a firsthand look at the history of prison reform and the justice system. But what truly sets the day apart was our students’ involvement in a mock trial, where they took on the roles of barristers, defendants, witnesses, and jurors.
Given preliminary materials to prepare, our students threw themselves into the experience. Dressed in authentic robes and wigs worth thousands of pounds, they articulated their arguments with confidence, presenting their cases with such skill and enthusiasm that even the museum staff were impressed. It was one of those moments where you could see learning come to life. History wasn’t just something to be read about; it was something to be lived.
After wrapping up an incredible morning at the courthouse, we took a stroll through Nottingham, making our way to our next challenge - escape rooms. As someone who got the "privilege" of attempting (and failing) an escape with my group, I’ll take full responsibility for being the reason we were the only team that didn’t make it out in time (at least that’s the story the students are going with).
The escape rooms proved to be both a mental and physical challenge, with students solving intricate puzzles, working under pressure, and even climbing through tight spaces to unlock clues. Seeing them face their fears, collaborate under pressure, and think critically was incredible, another reminder of how learning extends far beyond textbooks and screens.
By the end of the day, we said our goodbyes and dispersed across the country, but not before sharing stories, laughter, and plenty of plans for the next trip. The sense of community was unparalleled - not just among the students but also the parents, many of whom had met up at the Cosy Club for lunch while their children bonded on the trip.
The feedback we received from parents summed up just how impactful the day had been:
"Will also had a great time—he hasn’t been on a school trip since before Covid. We laughed a lot on the way home as he told us about his day. Thanks to the team for making it such a great and memorable experience!" — Michelle, MVA Parent
_"Slane and Xander both had a great day. I was really happy to see them happy. They both found the courthouse very interesting in spite of being nervous. Thank you for a great day for our boys." _— Dione, MVA Parent
“Thank you for a great trip. Ella's words were: ‘It’s the best school trip I’ve ever been on!’” — Laura, MVA Parent
Our trips are about bringing students together, building confidence, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. With every new adventure, we see friendships form, minds expand, and our incredible community grow even stronger.
And if this trip was anything to go by, the next one is going to be just as unforgettable.
